  • late December til March-April
  • monsoon conditions in summer create humid westerly wind flow
  • westerlies accompany active monsoon pulses typically for two weeks at a time
  • moist winds are denser and more powerful than Dry Season winds
  • water state is dominated by wind blown chop and can get hectic
  • clean water conditions occasionally develop if local weather systems produce offshore or very light wind
  • cyclones in WA’s Kimberley region or further out in the Indian Ocean send increased wave energy to Darwin
