Lake Alexander/East Point end of Fannie Bay is a protected, shallow, sandy mud flat with easy access, shade, showers, toilet block, drink taps and barbeques
Best on 4.0 m or higher tide, or be prepared to walk out to deeper water
Dry Season easterlies blow direct offshore and create wind shadow
South-easterlies blow cross-offshore, left to right in the above photo and provide a better angle for the 4.5km run to Cullen Bay
A sandbar (visible on low tide) forms the western boundary of Fannie Bay, starting approximately 1.5km out from Darwin Ski Club and extending south to Cullen Bay
Big tides are unforgiving around the Sandbar and the end of East Point, and will carry you out to sea if winds are too light to fly
Big tides create crazy water states around the sandbar so apply caution out there

Wet Season westerlies blow onshore
If the sea is too big to get out at Casuarina Beach or Kite Corner try Lake Alex beach
The shore break can be challenging on bigger swells – access is easier nearer the mangroves
East Point filters out the cross chop and provides clean rollers

On low tide access, the water depth is greater in front of the Sailing Club
On very low tides you can walk half way out to the sandbar from the Ski Club
In the right conditions waves can be found at the south end of Fannie Bay
